VOCEL’S EXCITING INTERACTIVE TECHNOLOGY LETS CONSUMERS LEARN EXPANDED SUITE OF LANGUAGES FROM RANDOM HOUSE ON THE GO
VOCEL and Random House’s Living Language Now Offer Lessons in French, German and Japanese on Mobile Phones
Offered On All Major U.S. Carriers
LAS VEGAS – If you see someone speaking French or Japanese into their cell phone, it just may mean that class is in session. VOCEL, one of the most exciting “push technology” companies in the wireless field, and Living Language, a Random House imprint, and the foremost name in foreign language self-study, have announced the addition of French, German and Japanese to the suite of languages available via the Living Language mobile application at the CTIA Wireless 2006 tradeshow in Las Vegas.
Offered by all major carriers in the U.S. and Latin America, Living Language delivers mobile phone lessons to consumers on their own time, anywhere they are with full audio pronunciation of hundreds of words. Living Language applications for English, as a second language, and Spanish were first introduced last fall.
The full-color Living Language lessons allow users to determine what they learn, when they learn, and how they learn. The powerful applications offer more than 600 words, phrases, grammar lessons and short readings that are sent to the user’s phone over the course of the subscription. Key features include audio pronunciation of all words, which is crucial to learning a language, and just part of what makes this mobile phone application such a useful and unique learning tool.
This new evolution in cell phone capability is made possible by VOCEL’s patent-pending, interactive messaging technology. The company is working on the development of premium branded applications that will forever change the way people receive information from and interact with their cell phones. In addition to its partnership with Living Language, VOCEL is already developing premium applications for a core group of recognized brand names, including The Princeton Review, Oxford University Press, Harlequin Enterprises, The Pill Book to name a few.
“VOCEL’s partnership with Living Language to make mobile learning a reality for cell phone users has proved to be a great success,” said Carl Washburn, VOCEL’s CEO and founder. “We are excited to be expanding the suite of languages offered as more and more people take advantage of the interactive, life-enhancement applications we are developing via our patent-pending technology.”
Consumers subscribe to the Living Language service through their mobile phone carrier and they can customize the application to learn at their own pace. Users can choose how many questions they receive per day, what the topics are, and when the learning begins and ends. Practiced questions can be pushed to users throughout the day, and reminders can even help distracted learners stay focused. The applications offered include interactive tutorials, flashcard learning, tests and report cards.
